The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing support for people living with disability and replaces the old system of ‘block’ funds going to the organisations providing support. The NDIS is a whole-of-life approach that represents a major reform of disability services in Australia and it has been designed to provide the right support according to each person’s needs and goals.
The idea is that everyone’s support needs are different and that each person can exercise choice and control over what services and supports they receive. If you currently hold funding through a state government service or through another provider, we can talk about the options available to you.
The NDIS is not available everywhere, yet. The scheme has been rolled out in stages, because it’s a big change and it needs to be right and sustainable for everyone. For more information on the scheme and when it will be available in your area go to www.ndis.gov.au alternatively, you can phone the NDIA on 1800 800 110, or visit a National Disability Insurance Agency in your area.
